"Si alguien busca ayuda debido a una enfermedad, o en base a otra dificultad, un gran médico no debe prestar atención a la situación, la riqueza o la edad; tampoco preguntarse si la persona en particular es bonita o no, si es un enemigo o un amigo, ya sea chino o extranjero, o, finalmente, si es ignorante o educado. Deben conocer a todos en pie de igualdad; siempre deben actuar como si estuvieran pensando en sí mismos. No deberían desear nada y deben ignorar todas las consecuencias; no están para reflexionar sobre su propia suerte o desgracia y por lo tanto preservar la vida y tener compasión por ella. Deben mirar a los que han venido por la pena como si ellos mismos hayan sido golpeados, y deben simpatizar con ellos desde lo profundo de su corazón. Ni los pasos de montaña peligrosos ni la hora del día, ni las condiciones climáticas ni el hambre, la sed, ni la fatiga debe evitar ayudar de todo corazón. Quien actúa de esta manera es un gran médico para los vivos. Quien actúa contrariamente a estas demandas es un gran ladrón para los que todavía tienen sus espíritus! "

“If someone seeks help because of illness, or on the ground of another difficulty, a great physician should not pay attention to status, wealth, or age; neither should they question whether the particular person is attractive or unattractive, whether they are an enemy or a friend, whether they are Chinese or a foreigner, or finally, whether they are uneducated or educated. They should meet everyone on equal ground; they should always act as if they were thinking of themselves. They should not desire anything and should ignore all consequences; they are not to ponder over their own fortune or misfortune and thus preserve life and have compassion for it. They should look upon those who have come to grief as if they themselves had been struck, and they should sympathize with them deep in their heart. Neither dangerous mountain passes nor the time of day, neither weather conditions nor hunger, thirst nor fatigue should keep them from helping whole-heartedly. Whoever acts in this manner is a great physician for the living. Whoever acts contrary to these demands is a great thief for those who still have their spirits!”
