Chapter 9
Better to stop short than fill to the brim.
Oversharpen the blade, and the edge will soon blunt.
Amass a store of gold and jade, and no one can protect it.
Claim wealth and titles, and disaster will follow.
Retire when the work is done.
This is the way of heaven.

Es mejor detenerse justo antes a llenar hasta el borde.
Afilando la cuchilla, y el borde en breve se despunta.
Amasa una tienda de oro y jade, y nadie lo puede proteger.
Reclama riqueza y títulos, y el desastre te seguirá.
Retirarse cuando se hace el trabajo.
Este es el camino del cielo.

Chapter 8
The highest good is like water.
Water give life to the ten thousand things and does not strive.
It flows in places men reject and so is like the Tao.
In dwelling, be close to the land.
In meditation, go deep in the heart.
In dealing with others, be gentle and kind.
In speech, be true.
In ruling, be just.
In daily life, be competent.
In action, watch the timing.
No fight: No blame.

El mayor bien es como el agua.
El agua da vida a las diez mil cosas y no se esfuerza.
Fluye en lugares donde los hombres lo rechazan y así es como el Tao.
En la vivienda, estar cerca de la tierra.
En la meditación, adentrarse en el corazón.
En el trato con los demás, ser gentil y amable.
En el discurso, ser verídico.
En el fallo, ser justo.
En la vida diaria, ser competente.
En la acción, ver el calendario.
Sin pelear: Sin culpa.

Bajo el cielo todos pueden ver la belleza como belleza sólo porque hay fealdad.
Todas pueden saber lo bueno como bueno sólo porque existe el mal.
Por lo tanto, tener y no tener surgen juntos;
Difícil y fácil se complementan entre sí;
Largo y corto contrastan entre sí:
Alto y bajo descansan unos sobre otros;
Voz y sonido armonizan entre sí;
Anverso y reverso se suceden.
Por lo tanto los sabios van sin hacer nada, enseñan no-hablar.
Las diez mil cosas suben y bajan sin cesar,
Crear, pero sin poseer,
Trabajar, pero no atribuirse el mérito.
El trabajo se realiza, luego se olvida.
Por lo tanto, es para siempre.

Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty only because there is ugliness.
All can know good as good only because there is evil.
Therefore having and not having arise together;
Difficult and easy complement each other;
Long and short contrast each other:
High and low rest upon each other;
Voice and sound harmonize each other;
Front and back follow one another.
Therefore the wise goes about doing nothing, teaching no-talking.
The ten thousand things rise and fall without cease,
Creating, yet not possessing,
Working, yet not taking credit.
Work is done, then forgotten.
Therefore it lasts forever.
